Kurtis Patterson in action for St George
Most of the NSW Sheffield Shield squad will fine-tune for the start of the Blues' title defence at suburban grounds across Sydney over the next two weekends after being released back to their Premier Cricket clubs.
Twenty-two contracted players will turn out for round two of the McDonald’s NSW Men’s Premier Cricket competition, including five Test stars.
Trent Copeland, Moises Henriques and Kurtis Patterson will line-up for St George against a Manly side featuring spinner Steve O'Keefe at Manly Oval.
Former Australian wicket-keeper Peter Nevill will be in action for Eastern Suburbs against Penrith at Waverley Oval.
Paceman Chris Tremain, who played four ODIs for Australian in 2016, is reunited with UNSW for their meeting with Western Suburbs at David Phillips Field.
Tremain has returned to NSW after five seasons in Victoria.
It will be the last hit out for NSW players before a 15-man squad heads to Adelaide for the start of the 2020/21 Shield campaign next month.
"Having a two-day Grade game in the lead-in to the Shield summer is fantastic," NSW coach Phil Jaques said.
"It's a chance for the boys to get some match practice and put back into their clubs.
"We want them to be available for their clubs at every opportunity. It gives the whole competition a lift and gives the players a chance to go back and do well for their clubs.
"They are very keen to play and I am very keen to see how they perform."
Asked what he expected of his Shield players returning to Premier Cricket, Jaques declared: "Big hundreds, big bags of wickets and consistent performances.
"The guys in the Shield team and those pushing to get into the team will be looking to put some numbers on the board.
"We want players who come back from Shield cricket to Premier cricket to perform.
"The expected standard is they put in some dominant performances."
